Brian Conley, Managing Partner
A born-and-bred New Yorker, Brian spent countless days honing his skills as a handicapper and bettor at the iconic Aqueduct, Belmont, and Saratoga racetracks. His passion for horse racing ignited in his teenage years, sparking a lifelong dream of owning thoroughbreds. After relocating to Maryland, Brian turned that dream into reality, diving into the state’s racing circuit in 2005. He started by purchasing a handful of yearlings, guiding them to the track, and later testing his instincts in the claiming game, where he notched successes in low- to mid-tier racing.
Following a hiatus from the industry, Brian is back with renewed vigor, steering Santa Rey toward prominence as an emerging name in thoroughbred racing. He resides in Columbia, Maryland, with his wife, Laurie, and takes pride in his family of three grown children and five grandchildren.
Scott McDermott, Partner
Scott McDermott, a lifelong New Yorker, has been hooked on horse racing since placing a $2 bet and cashing a $108 ticket on Temperance Hill at the 1980 Belmont Stakes. A fixture around the New York racing circuit, Scott’s passion for the sport has only deepened over the years. Introduced to Brian through a mutual friend, the two forged a strong bond, leading Scott to become a partner in Santa Rey Stable. A trusted collaborator, he’s been by Brian’s side through every twist and turn, playing a key role in the Stable’s major decisions.
Scott resides happily in Suffolk County, New York, with his wife, Christine, and is the proud father of four grown sons.
